A Peshastin area man was arrested this morning after he reportedly fired several rounds from a semi-automatic rifle into the air during a domestic disturbance. Chief Mike Harris with the Chelan County Sheriff's office says they received several 911 calls around 1-30a.m. from residents in the Valley High area of Peshastin who heard the shots. He says because of echoing it was difficult to pinpoint the source of the gunfire. Around 2-45a.m. officers located the residence in Cottonwood Lane off of State Route 97.
Harris, the Sheriff's Office SWAT Team Commander, says because of the residence having no easy access, and with the weapon being continually fired, the SWAT team was called in. While that team was enroute a deputy on scene, a trained negotiator, was able to talk to the suspect on a land-line. Around six a.m. deputies were able to get the man to come out of the house unarmed and surrender peacefully . The man's girl friend, who also lives at that home, was not hurt. Harris says it's fortunate there were no injuries.
The suspect, identified as 21 year old Thomas Rich, was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on a charge of Reckless Endangerment.
