The Mt. Barney Fire, near the head of Falls Creek is estimated at 35 acres. Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the blaze, north of Winthrop, lies about one mile from the boundary of the Pasayten Wilderness and is burning in steep terrain. Fire managers say there was little growth on the fire Friday. The fire spread that did occur was mostly in the treetops. Air support helped crews who worked on several spot fires as they dug handline along the west edges of the fire. Over 90 firefighters are battling the lightning caused fire.
