An elderly Ephrata man died late Friday morning following a chain reaction accident a few miles west of Soap Lake. The State Patrol reports that 85 year old Cyrus Broers was eastbound on State Route 28, preparing to make a left hand turn. His pickup was hit by another eastbound vehicle and pushed into the path of a pair of westbound vehicles. Broers who was not belted up, died at the scene. The driver of the car that hit Broers pickup was not hurt. Two people in the westbound cars were injured. 36 year old Charlet Hoyt of Soap Lake was taken to Samaritan Hospital as was a seven year old passenger in her pickup. There status was not immediately available. The driver and two young passengers in the other westbound vehicle were taken to Columbia Basin Hospital as a precaution. The Patrol reports that charges are pending.
