A 30 acre wildfire in the Pasayten Wilderness is being monitored. Fire managers say the Lost Monument Fire, 19 miles northwest of Winthrop is burning in a steep, rocky gorge. Fire managers say most of the fire activity has been in the Monument creek drainage, with a few spot fires in Lost River. Because of the difficult terrain and concern for firefighter safety, no personnel are taking direct action on the fire which is being monitored under a confinement strategy by two smokejumpers.
