08/17/12Taylor Bridge Fire Containment Expected Sunday
Fire officials now say they hope to declare the Taylor Bridge Fire fully contained this weekend. The blaze, four miles southeast of Cle Elum and four miles northwest of Ellensburn has burned nearly 28 thousand acres. Fire information officer Rick Scriven says the blaze is 33 percent contained. If all goes well the blaze may be declared fully contained by 12am Sunday. That of course depends greatly on the weather. A red flag warning for dry lightning is forcast for today through Saturday night. As of last night, fire managers report the blaze remained calm and mop-up activities began in the southeastern portion of the fire. Scriven says some evacuation levels were reduced. Those were areas outside the fire perimeter, including the east side and southeast edge of the fire. While those residents were allowed to return home, Scriven says they shouldn't assume the danger is over. Some areas of concern, there are a number of downed power lines in the fire area. He says you should assume all downed lines are hot and not to approach them. About 70 homes were destroyed in the fire, but none in the last couple of days.
