Leaders representing the states' small and medium-sized businesses met at a summit this week in Cle Elum to set their legislative agenda for the upcoming session. The annual summit organized by the Association of Washington Business was held at Suncadia Resort. Governor Chris Gregoire delivered the keynote speech and, according to AWB President Don Brunell, her message focused on the State's fiscal crisis and her call for businesses to help turn the economy around. Brunell says the Governor's message was well received but he says there has been a growing sense of frustration with State government's maze of regulations that he says stifles business growth. He specifically cited the problems businesses have had with the State Department of Ecology. Brunell says that ultimately the state's and, for that matter, the Nation's economic recovery will be driven by consumer confidence which has been on the decline during the recession.
