Gustier winds forecast for Monday afternoon could test lines on the St. Mary's Mission Road Fire. Fire information officer Janet Pearce says crews made good progress on the blaze, southeast of Omak this weekend, in part because winds have been calm.
Pearce says as mop up continues on the west and north sides of the fire, resources are being moved to the more complex areas on the southeast portion of the fire. blaze started last Tuesday near the intersection of Highway 155 and St. Mary's Mission Road. The cause of the fire, which destroyed two homes and eight other structures, is under investigation. A public meeting with fire managers is set for six p.m. Monday at the East Omak Community Center, 601 Benton Street in Omak.
