You can't call Quincy a sleepy little farm town anymore . . . Not since its development as Washington State's silicon orchard. Quincy Mayor Jim Hemberry says the huge data server farms have helped spur new development and the City has reaped big rewards from the enhanced tax base. Hemberry says the City's taxable property value has increased from 265-million dollars to almost 1.1 billion dollars in the three years since Microsoft, Yahoo, Intuit, and Sabey Corporation built their large data centers. The City's sales tax revenue also skyrocketed from an annual average of 600 thousand dollars a year to 10 million dollars in just the last three years. The City has put the money to work with a new library, parks, Public Works building and several street improvements.
