10/21/11 Make a Difference Day Projects (more)

About 50 projects, ranging from helping disabled people clean their yards, collecting food for the needy and coats for kids, to cleaning artwork are planned for tomorrow's (sat) annual Make a Difference Day in the Wenatchee Valley. Sue Freese, and other Make a Difference Day volunteers appeared on yesterday's (thu) "Street Talk and Other Stuff" show with Mike Magnotti. Freese says this is the 21st time the Wenatchee Valley has had a "Make A Difference Day".

One of the many projects is "Kids Helping Kids", the brainchild of nine year old Mackenna Schwab. From nine a.m. to noon she, and others, will be selling lemonade, coffee and baked goods in front of Fluegge's Family Dentistry on Grant Road in East Wenatchee. Proceeds benefit Seattle's Children's Hospital.

Megan Wade, a senior at Wenatchee High School, has been collecting soccer gear to go to kids in Haiti, the program is called "Headers for Haiti". Soccer gear can be dropped off at Albertsons in Wenatchee and Fred Meyer's in East Wenatchee and at the girls home game at the Apple Bowl, starting at ten a.m. She says she started the program after talking with some family friends, who are doctors that volunteer their time and talents in Haiti. After hearing about how kids responded to getting soccer gear, she donated a lot of her own equipment and collected more.
