Grant County PUD officials are projecting a 10-percent utility rate increase in 2013. The issue was discussed during a third and final public budget meeting last week. PUD spokesman Thomas Stredwick says the increase is intended for capital improvement projects. . .
A financial officer for the PUD says the hike is also designed to keep the surplus adequate and serves as an insurance policy during dry years. But the ag industry could be hit the hardest with a 50-percent increase proposed on agricultural food processing per month. Grant County PUD customers pay the third cheapest utility rates in the country.
