US Postal Service employees in Wenatchee oppose plans by the agency to close the local mail processing center at Olds Station. The Wenatchee facility is one of several in Central Washington targeted for closure as the cash-strapped agency considers consolidating operations in Spokane. It says would save more than $1.5 million annually and chop the local postal staff by up to 20 workers.
Officials say the Wenatchee facility has experienced a 50-percent decline in first class mail volume over the past four years prompting a study which reviewed mail processing, transportation and capacity.
But mail center employees have argued the closure would extend local delivery times. O
