Wenatchee School District Superintendent Brian Flones sent a letter home to parents Friday in the wake of the tragic incident at a Connecticut elementary school. Flones says the safety of students is the District's number one priority. School officials have they have worked hard over the past few years to develop emergency preparedness plans. He advises that parents, especially of young children, to turn off, or monitor the television. Endless news programs are likely to heighten anxiety. Other tips, maintain a normal routine, remain calm and reassuring, be optimistic and be a good listener and observer of your children.. look out for any changes in behavior. Flones adds that when the Winter break ends, school officials may look at reviewing their crisis plans and perhaps reinforce school security and campus visitor procedures.
