Now that new state law on pot possession has gone into effect, cities around the state this month are revising their city code to follow suit. Thursday night the Wenatchee city council repealed ordinances that made possession of small amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia a crime. City attorney Steve Smith says unlike some other municipalities, Wenatchee officials do not plan on dismissing marijuana possession cases that originated before Initiative 502 went into effect December 6th. Smith told the council unlike large cities like Seattle, Wenatchee has only a few pending cases. He says authorities want to keep that tool in place and deal with the half a dozen or so pending cases on a case-by-case basis.
