Family holds off fire until Firefighters arrive

Quick thinking by an East Wenatchee family saved their rental home when a fire was discovered Wednesday afternoon.  There were no injuries but the fire damaged electrical wiring and the family will need assistance from the Red Cross for temporary housing.

Douglas County Fire Marshal Brian Brett told the Wenatchee World a teenage boy and his father’s girlfriend used a garden hose and fire extinguisher to slow down a fire that had started on the outside of the house in the 4700 block of NW Cascade Avenue. The boy was in the house and heard a pop around 3:30 p.m.  and  saw smoke coming from the porch.  Douglas County Fire is investigating the cause of the fire.
