The organizer of the first "Taste of the Harvest", will be honored Saturday with the dedication of a public bench. Linda Haglund, executive director of the Wenatchee Downtown Association, says the event began as the dream of the late Jill Wood-Spanjer, who was executive director of the Wenatchee Convention and Visitor's Bureau at the time. The green bench is located by the fountain at the Stanley Civic Center Plaza. Wood-Spanjer, who died in a tragic bicycle accident in 2004, is the third person honored with a memorial bench for their contributions to Wenatchee's Downtown. The others are Kathy Allen and Grover Collins. The Taste of the Harvest starts at ten a.m. Saturday. Wenatchee Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from about Yakima to Second Streets.
