Grant County officials say a fire that destroyed a Quincy area business last week was accidental. The investigation into the fire that destroyed Jake's Meats on September 15th found that the fire started when charcoal briquettes, which had been used in a meat smoker the night before and left outside, were rekindled by afternoon winds. The briquettes then ignited other nearby combustibles, ultimately burning up to, and igniting the rear of the building.
