The U.S. Forest Service is waiving fees at hundreds of recreation sites across the country Saturday in recognition of National Public Lands Day. Fees however will not be waived at campgrounds or for recreation rentals. Robin DeMario with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National says the Fall is a great time to take the kids to the woods. Before you go, make sure the youngsters understand your expectations and rules. She adds its also a good idea to let kids carry some of their own gear, it will lighten your load and give kids a sense of responsibility. Gear kids should carry include a snacks, a water bottle, which they can sip from during frequent short rest breaks, and a whistle they can blow if they become lost. Fees are not being waived Saturday on State and DNR lands.
