Leavenworth's longest running festival, the Autumn Leaf Festival, kicked off its three day run Friday. Ed Rutledge, Festival President, says addition to music, dancing and food and arts and crafts vendors, the event includes plenty of kids activities. Saturday is the big day. Rutledge estimates that 15 thousand people will visit the Bavarian Village for the Festival. The fun begins at 9am Saturday with the start of the drill team competition. The Parade follows at noon. Because of the parade, U.S. 2 through Leavenworth will be closed from about 11-45 am to 2-15pm with traffic being detoured onto local roads. Big rig drivers may want to take an alternate route or reschedule their trip to an earlier or later time.
