Service cutbacks start today at Link Transit. . .
A 6% reduction in weekday service, a 53% reduction in Saturday service and
major route realignments for Wenatchee routes, plus some changes in other
areas go into effect today (October 3.)
Service is being reduced because available operating funds have decreased
about 18% in the past two years as the result of the recession. Sales tax
collections of 4/10 of 1% make up the bulk of Link Transit's funding, and
these have been severely impacted. In a workshop with the Link Transit Board
of Directors in February, staff was directed to come up with a plan that
would reduce operating expenses and increase revenue by $850,000 annually.
