OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Functions of five Washington agencies have become one with the creation of the new state Department of Enterprise Services.
The Olympian reports the mergers that have been under way for months took effect Monday.
The consolidation is expected to save $18 million over two years by putting support functions for multiple offices in one place. Enterprise Services is responsible for payroll, human resources, preparing legal contracts, managing real estate and purchasing supplies.
The department has nearly 1,100 employees and operates from a data-center complex near the Capitol.
