The latest estimates on the size of this year's Washington state apple crop are down slightly from previous estimates. Todd Fryhover, president of the Washington Apple Commission says the crop was originally estimated at a little over 106 million bushels. While the quantity estimates are down a little, the quality of the crop looks promising. Fryhover says the late bloom and cool weather has delayed harvest by 10 to 14 days, which causes concern about harvesting all the apples before the snow flies. Fryhover adds he is optimistic that growers will see excellent returns for the 2011-2012 apple crop.
