A comment from a Wenatchee Mayoral candidate has ruffled some feathers. At Wednesday evening's candidates forum at Wenatchee Valley College Frank Kuntz talked about a conversation he had following a recent meeting on the looming debt crisis for the Town Toyota Center. He said he had talked with a State Legislator afterwards and that the lawmaker told him, "Frank if you want to be mayor you need to lie". Kuntz went on to say that in order to be elected the legislator told him "you need to tell the people that the Town Toyota Center issue is easily fixable and not to default. And if you lie you might win." 12th District State Representative Mike Armstrong tells KPQ news that while he spoke with Kuntz after that meeting, he never told him to lie. He says he told Kuntz not to be dead set on default, and that there were many other options. Kuntz says he may have misinterpreted Armstrong, and if that's the case he apologizes. Kuntz says at issue is that many people are saying that defaulting on the bonds for the Town Toyota Center is not an option. Kuntz says while it's not a good solution, defaulting on the bonds needs to be fully explored. He says the question isn't just can the soon to expire bonds be refinanced, but what impact that would have on Wenatchee's budget.
