10/09/11 Body Found, ID Unknown

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal is asking for the public's help in identifying a woman whose body was found this weekend near Bridgeport and Brewster. Gjesdal says a man called 911 around  5-15pm Saturday, saying he had  found what appeared to be a human body near the intersection of Crane Orchard Road and Whitley Canyon Road. Gjesdal says the woman had suspicious injuries and the case is being treated as a homicide. He says at this time the identity of the woman is unknown.  The victim is described as an adult female, possibly Hispanic or Native American, between 20 and 40 years of age, five foot four inches tall and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds. Gjesdal says the woman was wearing a silver colored ring with a purple stone on her left middle finger and a square faced watch with a black band on her left wrist. There was a small tattoo of flower on her left breast and a vertical scar just below her naval. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's office immediately. You can do so through RiverCom Dispatch over the weekend and holiday at 663-9911. During the regular work week you can call the Sheriff's Departments business office at 884-0941.   An autopsy is pending.
