Most Chelan County PUD customers will see smaller, and less complex power bills next year. The PUD board of commissioners yesterday (mon) approved a new flat rate system that charges them two point seven cents per kilowatt-hour for all the energy they use. PUD General Manager John Janney (jay-knee) says the new electric rates result in two and a half percent more retail electric revenue for the PUD, but with the end of a nine percent surcharge, most customers will see an overall decrease. On average, six and a half percent. PUD officials say about 93 percent of customers will see their monthly bills decrease in 2012, or stay within a dollar of this year's billings for the same energy use. PUD Commissioners also raised the monthly discount for low income senior and low-income disabled customers. The discount is increasing from $8.25 to $9.25 per month to help offset any slight increase for those customers.
