10/22/11 State Senator Found Dead

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say there is no evidence of foul play in the death of Washington state Sen. Scott White.

Kittitas County Sheriff Gene Dana said in a statement Friday night that the death remains unexplained and that authorities are investigating. White was 41 years old and was discovered by housekeeping staff after he failed to check out of his hotel room at the Suncadia Resort. An autopsy is being arranged.

White was a young lawmaker who quickly rose to serve in a Senate leadership position and was widely viewed among Democrats as a rising star. He represented the state's 46th District, covering northern parts of Seattle and advocated for transportation issues in the Legislature.

White is survived by his wife and two children.
