A new trial has been scheduled for Steven Swinford, the Manson man who's first murder trial ended last week in a hung jury. Swinford appeared in Chelan County Superior Court Wednesday where Judge Chip Small ordered a January 4 retrial. Small declared a mistrial last friday after the jury deadlocked after 9 hours of deliberations
Swinford is charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of his life-long friend Paul Raney. Swinford had admitted to shooting Raney multiple times when the two men got into an argument over the use of an IPod.
Swinford claimed the shooting was in self defense. He testified in his first trial that he fired his weapon after he saw Raney reaching for a handgun.
