Governor Chris Gregoire unveiled a proposal today (monday) that would take a 500-million dollar chunk out of the education budget.
The proposed cuts include the removal of four school days and would cut levy equalization.
State Superintendent Randy Dorn says "the cuts being proposed would be catastrophic to basic education..." and North Central Educational Service District Superintendent Rich McBride agrees.
"Cutting back on school days is counter productive," said McBride
McBride claims that after discussing this issue with other superintendents they feel the same as he does.
In order to supplement cuts...the governor is offering to increase the state sales tax by a half cent which would reel in an additional 494-million dollars by 2013.
