11/21/11 Port of Quincy Gets Letters of Support for $530-million dollar grant

As commerce improves in Quincy so does the support for the 530-million dollar Transportation investment Generating Economic Recovery (or TIGER) grant...which would improve infrastructure and freight mobility at the Port of Quincy's Rail Terminal.

Within two weeks...32 letters were sent to the U.S. Department of Transportation requesting that they award the TIGER grant to the Port of Quincy for infrastructure improvements and increase shipment capacity.

Letters came from state and federal legislators as well as businesses...organizations and communities.

Port of Quincy President Curt Morris said, "Its encouraging to get that much support, especially from business outside of the area."

Morris says Quincy is one of nearly a thousand cities applying for the grant.

Other applicants include the Ports of Seattle...Tacoma and Portland.
