In a 5-2 vote... the East Wenatchee City Council approved a one-percent property tax increase at last night's (tuesday) city council meeting. The increase would generate an additional 15-thousand dollars worth of revenue per year to the city. Funds generated from the increase will go towards street maintenance. A motion to implement the "banked" City property taxes for previous years failed. That would have generated another 85-thousand dollars East Wenatchee Mayor Steve Lacy says the added tax revenue will also help buffer the City from recessionary downturns in the economy. Upon approval... each of the five-thousand households in East Wenatchee will pay an additional $3.50 per year starting in 2012.
