Unemployment figures are in for Chelan and Douglas Counties for the month of October. Regional Economist Mark Berreth says jobless rates remain relatively the same from last month with small growth. Bereth says the slight growth stems from a 1.5-percent increase in non-farming jobs and a rise of workers in the retail/trade sector. The State Employment Security Department separates statistics for the two counties with Chelan County at 6.5-percent unemployment and 6.2-percent unemployment for Douglas County. Bereth added holiday season jobs shouldn't change the overall jobless rates by too much over the next couple months. Statewide unemployment is equal to the U.S. with nine-percent for October. Out of all counties in the state Grays Harbor has the highest unemployment rate at 12.7 percent, and Whitman county has the lowest with 5.3 percent.
