With Christmas less than a month away, tree lots are springing up around the area. If you plan on heading out to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest to get your own tree, be prepared. Forest Service spokeswoman Robin DeMario says it's a winter wonderland out there, especially in the backcountry. Christmas tree permits are on sale for five dollars each at all ranger stations and the forest headquarters office. DeMario says the permit allows you to cut a tree, up to 15 feet tall, or dig a live transplant tree. Only two permits will be issued per household. Permits are only good on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National forest, and can not be harvested in Wilderness areas, campgrounds, developed recreation areas or tree plantations. Permits are available at several outlets including: Arlberg Sport and Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee, Dan's Food Market, the Quik Stop 76 gas station and Village Mercantile in Leavenworth, in Entiat at the Entiat Food Center, in Lake Wenatchee at Parkside Grocery, Midway Village Grocery and Plain Hardware and in Chelan at the Shell Foodmart Gas Station.
