12/02/11 PFD Member Municipalities on Debt Payment

Officials from seven of the nine jurisdictions that make up the Greater Wenatchee Regional Events Center Public Facilities District met Thursday to discuss indebtedness on the Town Toyota Center.  Afterwards Douglas County Commissioner Ken Stanton addressed the Wenatchee City Council.   Stanton said the officials "do not feel any financial obligation" to doing anything extra to pay off the debt on the Town Toyota Center.   He says promises were made to the agencies before the PFD was formed.   Stanton outlined options that showed it was possible for the city of Wenatchee to pay back the state, if the state legislature approved a loan to the PFD and if the city raised the sales tax in the city by two tenths of a percent.  The two PFD members not represented at Thursday's meeting were Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. East Wenatchee mayor Steve Lacy, who had a prior engagement, told the Wenatchee City Council that while he shares Commissioner Stanton's sentiments, he doesn't want to ask the East Wenatchee city council to make any decisions until he has something concrete for them to vote on.
