Wenatchee School District officials are not commenting on a claim filed by the family of a high school student who drowned last month in the High School's swimming pool. In a press release Monday afternoon, School District superintendent Brian Flones says "any litigation will be handled by the district's attorneys and, thus, the district is unable to comment except to say it is taking this matter very seriously".
The investigation into the death began last week. The pool remains closed to general student use and the teacher remains on leave pending completion of the investigation and a review of pool procedures.
The statement also says "the District continues to extend its condolences to Antonio Reyes' family. Since the death, District officials have communicated with the Reyes' family on multiple occasions. To help the family with expenses, the District has extended a limited benefit through its student insurance provider. The High School's ASB is also accepting donations on behalf of the Reyes' family during the Wenatchee vs. Eastmont basketball game on Saturday.
