Chelan and Douglas counties are two of five eastern Washington territories with a burn ban now extending to the Friday according to the state Department of Ecology.
The department's stage one ban will last until 10 a.m. Friday.
That level means all unnecessary use of uncertified wood-burning devices such as wood stoves, inserts and fireplaces must cease unless its your only source of heat.
Joy Redfield of the Ecology Department in the North Central Region says ban is caused be air stagnation.
That means...due to lack of wind... air is trapped in the valley which intensifies the heat put out by certain sources.
"We try to educate people during the ban and let people know why its a concern and will write tickets if we need to," said Redfield.
Okanogan...Ferry and Stevens are the other three counties falling under the ban.
