The State Department of Ecology is extending bans on all outdoor burning, and the unnecessary use of fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and four other Eastern Washington counties through at least Tuesday morning. Seth Preston with the DOE says it's unusual for a burn ban to last this long. Preston says smoke from burning wood can cause serious health problems, as the cold, still air traps smoke close to the ground. The burn ban also continues in Walla Walla, Kittitas, Ferry and Stevens Counties.
