12/15/11 Jobless Rate Dips

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Private-sector job growth has pushed Washington's unemployment rate to the lowest point since February 2009.

The Employment Security Department said Wednesday the drop to 8.7 percent unemployment in November came with the state adding 12,100 jobs. That was down from 9.1 percent in October.

Labor market information director Greg Weeks says the strong job growth is needed to dent the unemployment rate. The state has added jobs in 13 of the last 14 months, but it has usually come in smaller chunks. The numbers show growth across much of the private sector, with a slight decline in jobs for government.

Washington's numbers followed the national trend for November. The U.S. unemployment rate dropped from 9 percent to 8.6 percent.
