Choking back tears, outgoing Wenatchee Mayor Dennis Johnson thanked the council and city staff after he was presented with a plaque and proclamation thanking him for 12 years of service as Mayor. Council members and staff members and members of the audience gave Johnson a standing ovation as he received the honor. Thursday night was the final Wenatchee City Council meeting of the year, and the last with Johnson at the helm. City staffers unveiled a long roll of paper that highlighted more than 100 accomplishments the city has achieved under Johnson's leadership. Johnson says it's been a team effort. Johnson says while the city faces some difficult budget times ahead, he is confident that the incoming mayor, the incoming and current council members, city staff and the residents of the area will rise to the challenge.
