12/26/11 Moses Lake Man Missing

The Grant County Sheriff's office says a man's walk with his dog went astray after being reported missing last Friday.

Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones is asking the public to help retrace the steps of 64-year old Dan Toya of Moses Lake.

Deputies claim that Toya told his wife on Friday that he was taking their one-year old golden Labrador retriever to a Moses Lake veterinarian and then planned to take the dog for a walk.

A family member of Toya's contacted county law enforcement when he didn't return.

A relative found Toya's unoccupied pickup truck in the Samson's Beach area Friday evening.

A ground search was called immediately following the report.

The search was suspended at 2p.m. Saturday...Grant County Undersheriff Dave Ponozzo and other deputies have a hunch on what might have happened.

"We think that he might have walked onto the ice on the lake and fell through," said Ponozzo.

Until lake ice melts...Ponozzo expects boats to search the water for the man later this week.

Toya is a described as a elderly Asian male...standing five-foot-nine inches tall...weighing 180 pounds.

He has gray hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket...blue jeans and tennis shoes.

Anyone with information should call the Grant County Sheriff's Office at 509-762-1160.
