12/31/11 Wild Win in Shootout

WENATCHEE, Wash. – Robert Nichols earned his 10th win of the season, and the Wenatchee Wild downed the West Division-leading Alaska Avalanche Friday in a shootout, 3-2.

The Wild lit the first lamp of the game 11:07 into the first period during the first power play of the contest. Chris Kerr notched the goal, his 10th of the season, on a one-timer from point blank range off of Shawn Pauly's pinpoint pass between two defenders from the goal line. After Alaska tied the game at one all, Wenatchee reclaimed the lead, 2-1, 9:20 into the second period when Michael Lant notched an unassisted goal from blue line on a snap shot. Alaska tied the game again with about six minutes left in regulation.

The game was decided in a shootout after a scoreless overtime session. Nichols blanked the Avs in the shootout, and Blake Roubos and Pauly scored for the Wild.

Nichols made 31 saves on 33 shots to improve his record to 10-1-3. He also stopped all four of Alaska’s shooters in the shootout. This weekend’s series will conclude Saturday. Faceoff is at 6:05 p.m. You can hear the game on 560 KPQ, pre-game starts at 5:45 p.m.
