01/01/12 Search and Rescue Meeting

Young people in Chelan and Douglas counties are invited to learn more about a new search and rescue program being started by the Chelan County Sheriff's office. Sheriff Brian Burnett says the "Explorer Search and Rescue" program is designed to introduce youth, ages 14 to 19, to all aspects of search and rescue. In a news release, Sheriff Burnett says members will be trained in basic and advanced search techniques, map and compass, gps operation, basic first aid and many other aspects of search and rescue. An introductory meeting is set for Tuesday evening at six at Chelan County Fire District #1 Station 2, located at the corner of 5th and Western Avenue in Wenatchee. Parents are encouraged to attend the initial meeting. Members under 18 must have parental or guardian permission to join. For more information on the program, contact Sergeant Kent Sisson at 667-6864.
