01/0412 Snowpack Forecasted For 2012

Due to weaker La Nina conditions forecasted for the winter of 2012...Chelan County Public Utility District officials expect this year's amount of snowpack to reflect the same amount measured from last year in North Central Washington.

PUD manager of Energy Planning and Trading Janet Jaspers says the Northwest River Center forecasted snowpack at the Grand Coulee Dam to be 14-percent below the normal amount this winter and the Lake Chelan Basin to be eleven percent above average.

"We're much less dependent on year-to-year snowpack than in the past," PUD General Manager John Janney said.

Janney says revenue from parties who have recently purchased slices of power from the P.U.D. will make up any deficit caused by lower snowpack levels in the short term.
