01/11/12 Fairchild Tanker Training Sought (more)

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane leaders want the new Boeing-built air refueling tankers to first go to Fairchild Air Force Base.

Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell joined Greater Spokane Inc. on Monday to kick off a campaign to persuade the Air Force that Fairchild is the logical location for a training facility for the new KC-46A.

Boeing has a $35 billion contract to build 179 of the tankers, which are built on the 767 air frame assembled in Everett.

Murray told The Spokesman-Review (http://is.gd/FYdw5A) the Air Force will decide in March how it will select locations for the new tankers.
