DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia – Shawn Pauly and Matt Cope each scored a third-period goal, and Robert Nichols did the rest for the Wenatchee Wild in a 2-0 victory Friday over the Dawson Creek Rage. Nichols stopped all 27 of Dawson Creek’s shots to record his 12th win and fifth shutout of the season.
Nichols’ fifth shutout of the season tied the individual single-season record that Brandon Jaeger set in 2010-11.
Wenatchee scored the only goal it would need 8:59 into the third period when Pauly finished off a 2-on-1 by blasting in Trace Redmond's pass from point-blank range after the Rage coughed up the puck in the neutral zone. The goal was Pauly’s 11th of the season.
Cope added an empty-netter late in the third on a shot from the center line. Nichols earned the lone assist on the marker.
The Wild (18-10-4) and Rage (8-26-2) will square off in Game 2 of the weekend series Saturday at 6 p.m. Game 3 is schedule to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be broadcast live on 560 AM KPQ with Chris Hansen and Pat Norlin calling the action. Pre-game show Saturday starts at about 5-45p.m
