01/19/12 Hit and Run Accidents

Wenatchee man was arrested Thursday morning after fleeing the scene of a traffic accident. Police Department spokeswoman, Sgt Cheri Smith says after the man rear ended a woman on the Senator George Sellar Bridge,  the man drove off.  The woman followed in her pickup, telling police on her cell phone where the man was going.   The man eventually parked his car in the 600 block of South Mission Street and fled on foot.  Smith says a Wenatchee police officer pointed a taser at the fleeing man, who decided to stop at that time.   Besides hit and run the suspect also faces charges of driving with a suspended license and eluding a police officer.

A second hit and run accident involved a big-rig that knocked over a fire hydrant while attempting to make a sharp turn Wednesday night at the corner of Yakima and Chelan. It happened right in front of the RiverCom Emergency Dispatch Center in clear view of the facility's dispatchers. They were able to follow the semi as it drove away and they guided police officers to the suspect. He was arrested.
