WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Fresno Monsters edged the Wenatchee Wild Saturday at the Town Toyota Center, 3-2. The win forced a split in this weekend’s 2-game series and halted the Wild’s winning streak at four games.
The Wild drew first blood when Trevor Husch's shot leaked through the wickets of Fresno netminder Tomas Sholl near the midpoint of the first period. The Monsters controlled the second period, taking a 2-1 lead. The Wild appeared to tie up the contest early in the third period, but Parker Johnson's lamp-lighter was waived off due to goaltender interference. The Monsters went on to extend their lead to 3-1 with 9:09 remaining in the period. Shawn Pauly cut Fresno’s lead down to 3-2 with 3:28 left in regulation when he jammed in a rebound from right in front of the cage. However, Wenatchee could not come up with the equalizer down the stretch.
The Wild (21-11-4) will host the Kenai River Brown Bears in a 2-game series next Friday and Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show on KPQ begins at about 6-45 each night.
