The Wenatchee city council has directed staff to continue negotiations with the group, Velocity Swimming to potentially operate the city's pool this year. Mark Peterson, a board member of Velocity Swimming, says if a deal is reached, the pool would be open more hours than last year. The city's Parks board voted 3-2 recently in favor of keeping the pool under city management. Board member Laura Jaeks voted, who voted to have another group manage the pool, says they were tasked to see if the change would save the city money. It's been estimated that it would cost the city 10 thousand dollars more to have an outside agency operate the pool. Another concern with Velocity Swimming's proposal is that it would lead to a dramatic cost increase for swimming lessons. From about 35 to 70 dollars. Peterson says that's an issue they will address in the negotiations.
