The State Department of Ecology is issuing bans on all outdoor burning and the unnecessary use of fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves in Okanogan, Ferry and Stevens counties. D.O.E. spokesman Seth Preston says the bans begin at four p.m. Friday and continues until at least ten a.m. Monday, when they could be called off or extended. Bans already in affect in Chelan and Douglas counties until at least ten a.m. Monday. Preston says smoke from burning wood to heat homes can cause serious health problems, including lung and heart diseases.
