WENATCHEE, Wash. – The Wenatchee Wild defeated the Fairbanks Ice Dogs Saturday at the Town Toyota Center, 3-2, to force a split in this weekend’s 2-game series. The win also evened the season series between the West Division rivals, 3-3. Ben Carey opened scoring with 2:39 remaining in the first period when he scored from the slot during a power play. Wenatchee made it 2-0 a little over three minutes into the second stanza on a strong individual effort by Max McHugh who took a backhander that was denied by goaltender Steve Perry, but the rebound came right back to McHugh who lit the lamp with another backhand stab. Shawn Pauly ncreased the Wild’s lead to 3-0 with 6:38 remaining in the second frame on a penalty shot. The Wild held on to win 3-2. Greg Lewis made 21 saves on 23 shots for Wenatchee, including a key breakaway stop on Jeff Earnest with less than six minutes remaining in regulation. The Wild (23-13-4) will begin a 6-game Alaskan road trip with a 2-game series against the Kenai River Brown Bears next Friday and Saturday. Both games will begin at 8:30 p.m. and can be heard live on 560 AM KPQ. Pre-game show each night begins at about 8:15p.m.
