A near tragedy this weekend near Lincoln Rock State Park. Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says deputies were on marine patrol late Saturday afternoon when they spotted a riderless jet ski near the north end of Turtle Rock Island. Gjesdal says as the deputies neared to investigate, they spotted three people huddled together, floating about 50 yards from the jet ski.
Gjesdal says the family of three from Tukwila, a mother, father and six year old son were unable to explain at the time how they had fallen off the jet ski, or how their life jackets had come off. Gjesdal says boaters need to be familiar with their vessels and take every precaution.
Gjesdal adds conditions on area waterways can be treacherous, many rivers are running cold and swift and commends deputies Poppie and Schlaman for their life saving efforts.
