(AP) - The Washington Transportation Department says 67,000 vehicles a day used the stretch of Interstate 5 through Mount Vernon that is now blocked by the collapse of the Skagit River bridge. Mount Vernon is about 60 miles north of Seattle and 40 miles south of the Canada Border. The roadblock on both directions of I-5 is expected to cause a major disruption in trade and tourism between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. The Transportation Department has set up detours. The closest is within sight of the I-5 bridge and mostly used for local traffic between Mount Vernon and Burlington. The department also is recommending detours using Highway 20 and Highway 9 that add tens of miles to a trip. Officials are urging drivers to avoid the area if possible. .. ...

The Wenatchee Applesox go for the sweep Sunday  as they host the Corvallis Knights. Friday the 'Sox came from behind for a 7-6 win. Saturday the AppleSox only scored once, in the bottom of the 1st on Gerhard Muelheims solo shot to right field, but that was all the Sox needed to clinch the series over Corvallis. Derek Callahan and Tyler Kane turned in two solid pitching performances, and the Sox earned their first shutout of the season, 1-0. The win moves the Sox to 6-2 on the season and extends their winning streak to four. The series finale is tonight at 6:05. Pre-game on 560 KPQ begins at about 5-45. The team will have 2 days off and then travel to Klamath Falls for a 3 game road trip before returning home.
